Which class includes corrosives?

Class 8

Corrosives are materials that can cause severe burns to skin, eyes, and mucous membranes and can also corrode metals. This combination of tissue-damaging and metal-damaging properties places them in Class 8. Other classes cover different hazards: flammable solids belong to a separate class, radioactive materials are in another, and oxidizers/organic peroxides are in yet another. Examples of corrosives include strong acids like sulfuric acid and hydrochloric acid, and strong bases like sodium hydroxide. In safety labeling and handling, Class 8 signals corrosives so responders know to use appropriate protective gear and containment. So, the class that includes corrosives is Class 8.
